North Korea executes around 30 govt officials after deadly floods and landslides.

According to South Korean media, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un may have ordered the execution of some thirty government officials for their alleged failure to stop the recent flooding that claimed the lives of over a thousand people. Chagang Province had landslides and torrential rains that resulted in multiple fatalities, injuries, and homelessness.

According to Chosun TV, North Korean authorities promised to take harsh measures against anyone who they believe could have done more to stop the deaths.

According to Chosun TV, which quoted a North Korean official, individuals accountable for the intolerable death toll will suffer severe penalties. The report further stated that late last month, twenty to thirty officials from the area devastated by the floods were executed concurrently.

Details are difficult to verify because of North Korea's intense secrecy, but according to the Central News Agency (KCNA) of North Korea, Kim Jong Un gave the order to "strictly punish" officials in the wake of the devastating floods that ravaged Chagang Province, which is close to the Chinese border, in July.
