Police suspect a bid to ‘derail’ the train, which runs from Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj and was heading to its destination, Bhiwani in Haryana.
Late Sunday night near Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, the Prayagraj-Bhiwani Kalindi Express crashed with an LPG cylinder that had been placed on the rails; authorities described the incident as a "attempt to derail the train," but they were able to prevent a severe accident.
When the Kalindi Express struck the cylinder near Shivrajpur in Kanpur, it was traveling at a very fast speed towards its goal.
The LPG cylinder was placed on the tracks in an effort to derail the Kalindi Express. Senior cops hurried to the scene and started an investigation as soon as they received the information. A senior police official informed PTI that the Railway Protection Force is also looking into the matter and that the forensics team was called in.
The loco pilot, or driver, noticed the object and engaged the emergency brakes. The cylinder moved away from the rails as a result of the accident with the train, he continued, but the train did not stop.
