35 killed in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh as rains continue to wreak havoc
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rainfall in some parts of both the states on Tuesday.
Over the course of the last three days, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have experienced unprecedented levels of rainfall and flooding that have resulted in 35 fatalities, damaged roads and rail tracks, flooded thousands of acres of crops, and left people quickly searching for basic necessities. In response, relief and rescue organizations, as well as the chief ministers of both states, have intensified their efforts to address the situation.
A depression in the Bay of Bengal generated persistent precipitation since Saturday, disrupting regular life in Telangana and neighboring Andhra Pradesh. In all, sixteen persons were killed in rain-related incidents in Telangana and nineteen in neighboring Andhra Pradesh.
In certain areas of both states on Tuesday, further rainfall is expected, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Continuous rains in Telangana resulted in crop damage, inundation of low-lying areas, and interruption of the state's rail and road connections with neighboring Andhra Pradesh.
