Vinesh Phogat joins farmers' massive protest at Shambhu border: 'Painful to see this…'
Farmers recognized Olympian Vinesh Phogat at the gathering held at the Shambhu border to commemorate their protest, which entered its 200th day on Saturday.
On Saturday, August 31, Olympian Vinesh Phogat joined farmers at the Shambhu border for their 200th day of protest, calling for a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP). There are also planned protests along the borders of Khanauri, Shambhu, and Ratanpura.
Farmers have been staging protests at the Shambhu border since February 13 after officials prevented them from marching to Delhi. They are demanding a legal guarantee for the MSP for all crops in addition to other important demands.
The farmers recognized popular athlete and farmers' movement supporter Vinesh Phogat throughout the day's events.
"They haven't been seated here for 200 days. Observing this hurts. They are all citizens of this nation. The nation is run by farmers. Without them, nothing is possible—not even competition—because without food, we cannot compete. We sometimes feel helpless and powerless to do anything for our families, especially when we witness them in pain, despite the fact that we represent the nation at such high levels. I implore the government to pay attention. Since they had already acknowledged their error, they ought to keep their word. At the event, Vinesh Phogat stated, "If people sit on the streets like this, the country won't progress."
