Tom Holland, Zendaya's Spider-Man 4 to be helmed by Shang Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton

Spider-Man 4 is expected to start early next year. Tom Holland and Zendaya will reprise their roles of Peter Parker and MJ respectively.

Tom Holland, Zendaya's Spider-Man 4 to be helmed by Shang Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton

Spider-Man 4, starring Zendaya and Tom Holland, appears to be progressing quickly within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, particularly in light of the recent series of events. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Destin Daniel Cretton, the filmmaker of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has been tapped to direct the fourth installment of the franchise, which has so far been helmed by John Watts. How Destin joined the team
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was slated to be directed by Destin, following the success of his 2021 MCU film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. However, once Jonathan Majors—who plays Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe—was fired due to his conviction on two counts of domestic abuse, the project's preparations were abandoned.


Subsequently, Avengers: Kang Dynasty transformed into Avengers: Doomsday, featuring the announcement of Robert Downey Jr.'s comeback as the main antagonist Doomsday, the former Iron Man star. His main requirement to rejoin the MCU was that the Russo Brothers, who directed Iron Man, Avengers: Infinity War, and Endgame, also return. The project, Avengers: Doomsday, was unveiled at the Sen Diego Comic-Con earlier this year. It is scheduled for theatrical release in 2026.Concerning Spider-Man 4
Now that he was free from his Avengers responsibilities, Destin was given the opportunity to direct Spider-Man 4, with Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers returning as the film's screenwriters. Tom and Zendaya, a real-life celebrity couple, will also return to their respective roles as Peter Parker and his girlfriend MJ. Sony, managed by Amy Pascal, and Marvel Studios, directed by Kevin Feige, will co-produce Spider-Man 4.


The world's memory of Peter as Spider-Man was erased after the end of the third installment, Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was published in 2021. In addition, MJ from Zendaya no longer knows Peter, so if their romantic trajectory continues, it will probably need to restart. It's uncertain if Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, the previous two Spider-Men, will make a comeback.
